I've installed half a dozen systems before and never experienced this, it's bizzare. First of all the dimming headlights only occur after the amps have been in use for a while. If I detach their power cables from the battery everything goes back to normal. All electrical devices are affected...

In my Alpine I have to go into the Functions menu to enable the AUX input. Maybe Pioneer has the same thing?

Real world answer: The laptop will sound fine. Technical nerdy answer: Windows' kmixer resamples all audio to 48kHz, as do Creative cards. Music will sound "computerized" after the resampling process (to the trained ear on nice equipment anyway). Only way around this is to get a sound card...

Not sure how it'll sound on stock speakers but personally I couldn't stand not having at least a 5-band EQ on an alpin.e The one I had before didn't and I get rid of it asap. Couldn't tune the mids as much as I wanted.

The Alpine adapter just plugs into the Ai-Net bus, no running extra power or ground wires needed. Check the link in my sig for detailed info.

Sounds like you'd need a switcher and Alpine has some pretty complex ones. Check their website, and fyi there's some extra models on their Euro website.

Depends on the area. If I park up in DC I take it off and lock it in the glove box with the ipod. If I'm at the local mall I leave it on. Just fyi my friend had ONLY his faceplate stolen out of his car. The kids didn't know how to take out the radio.

If you crave long battery life go for the 30gb photo instead. The 40gb is part of the 1st batch of 4th gens which had crappy battery life. I thought I'd fill up my 40gb real quick when I bought it but I only ended up needing 6 gigs. :P
