What is it with Old School Amplifiers?

Nope, my cousin Chris was gunz4me on this forum. He was nice enough to let me crash at his place for the few weeks I was in. If he ever does come back to this forum, I highly doubt he will be preaching the old school.

What is it with Old School Amplifiers?

Linear Power is the brand that pushed my cousin Chris over the edge. For two years I watched him collect those amplifiers while telling him that he should look into something else for all the money he was spending, but he didn't want to listen. He kept pulling this "They were awesome when I...

What is it with Old School Amplifiers?

I have been going to various car audio forums and it appears that many are hung up on old school amplifiers. Why is this? Are you going to tell me that 15 to 20 year old technology is awesome and better than what is currently available today? Seriously, how is the best that was available 15...

    Old Skool Rockford equipment

Nope, I just think there are better options available today than those ancient, antique, relics that had self-oscillating power supplies and TO-3 transistors. I posted a link that should have helped you to better understand what Symmetry was! Wayne Harris was the first person I ever recall...

    Old Skool Rockford equipment

Actually, that is a bad analogy because the new Camaro SS is a PIG at 3700+ pounds. Regardless, I watched my cousin collect Linear Power amplifiers for TWO YEARS, only to sell them ALL after they didn't perform to his expectations. I told him that he was going to be disappointed when he came...

    Old Skool Rockford equipment

Here is some info in it: http://www.termpro.com/articles/symmetry1.html Of course, that begs me to ask the following question: Why would you want to run one of those relics from the past when signal processing allegedly improved since then? If you were going for a "blast from the past"...

    1ohm Stable A/B amps

I can't say I blame you for not wanting to run those antique relics from the past. The "good old days" were just that, good old days!

    1ohm Stable A/B amps

The Lunar L2125 can handle 1 ohm stereo or 2 ohms mono. My cousin is currently running one in his Mustang at 2 ohms mono.

    Old School

If I had to guess based on the OP's other threads, I am thinking that he is inferring something along the lines of 15 year old amplifiers being better than what is currently available today. Personally, I don't see how that can be because there have been significant technological improvements...

    Bonified, Certified High Quality Amps

When it comes to damping factor, I thought that was more of an issue in the pro audio world where the speaker wire runs can be 50 to 100, or more, feet. As for RC's test, I thought his philosophy was amplifiers that measure the same will sound the same... Since he has his own tricks to level...

    Bonified, Certified High Quality Amps

From what little research I have performed, my amplifier list would also include: Tru, Genesis, Zapco, Arc Audio, or Lunar. My cousin, who I happen to be staying with right now, swears by Lunar and his setups are pretty impressive.

    Old school Punch 15's

If they are the PCH-154, that Orion HCCA 225 should be more than enough power for a pair of them at 2 ohms!

    Old school Punch 15's

I remember those subwoofers from back in the day. The good thing is they don't take much power to get loud. The bad this is you are going to literally choke when you see the airspace those bad boys require. IIRC they needed 2.5 to 3 cubic feet sealed and 5 to 6 cubic feet ported PER 15. I...
