New system - pics and impressions

I've heard that before, but I thought I remember Mike from Soundsplinter recommending Armor-all to clean his subs. In fact, I think he even used to wipe each one down before shipping them out to customers. Guess I'll have to ask him.

New system - pics and impressions

On another note, wierd things were happening with my x200.4 when I was setting gains. The Ushers are 8ohm drivers, so if I wanted to give them ~100W, I should be looking for ~28V on the multimeter. Gain setting went well with my sub, which is running off an Avionixx amp. But even when the Xenon...

New system - pics and impressions

Brief history: I had a set of Focal 165K2P installed for three years. Then after I moved from CT to AL, my sound deadening fell onto the back of my Focal woofers, killing them. So I had to replace them. Pioneer P880PRS Usher 8945P Peerless HDS Tweeter PG Xenon x200.4 Soundsplinter Rl-p15...

    Made some tweeter mounts

And here are a few shots of the new drivers next to the old. Many thanks go out to Dylan at timbre-audio.com for answering all 700 of my questions about this equipment before I purchased anything.

    Made some tweeter mounts

So I'm having to replace my old speakers, and I decided to start by fabricating an a-pillar mount for my tweeters. Unfortunately, I started before reading about how it's not recommended to apply fiberglass or bondo directly to ABS plastic, so I'm going to ask at the end about how I might best...

EQing a dip? (Now with pictures!)

Yep, I have that Behringer mic already. Thanks for the link to the preamp and program. I'll have to pick those up eventually.

EQing a dip? (Now with pictures!)

In that case, I have the mic but not the preamp. Thanks for the help.

EQing a dip? (Now with pictures!)

I'll probably put a lpf on the woofer somewhere around 1.6kHz, so the upper peaks won't be too much concern. My tweeters should be able to be crossed around 2kHz without an issue. What kind of microphone would I need to run the RTA software?

EQing a dip? (Now with pictures!)

Well, I have a db meter... maybe that can serve as a poor man's RTA. Has anyone here installed the Usher 8945P's? I'm going to mate them with a 1" dome tweeter. It'll be my first active setup with any kind of processing, so I'll probably be back with more stupid questions before I'm done.

EQing a dip? (Now with pictures!)

Couldn't you say the same about running this in someone's dorm room, since the graph was likely taken in an anechoic chamber? Yet the home theater guys are all about throwing in notch filters and ridiculously low crossover points to try and obscure the dip, despite the fact that the rest of the...

EQing a dip? (Now with pictures!)

How easy would it be to fix the ~1.2kHz dip in the graph below? I'll be using the 880PRS for processing. I've never messed with an EQ in either home or car systems, so I have to ask. Doesn't seem like it would be difficult, but that's a pretty substantial dip... I'm thinking of trying to put...

    Critique my proposed system!!

With a 3.5" mounting depth? You tell me. It would be doable in my car only if I made about a 1" baffle; and even then it would only work in the rear doors because the windows don't go all the way down. Also, with a baffle that size and 15mm p-p excursion, I'd have to cut a hole in my door panel...

Fixing my System (K2P, Lotus, and active comps)

I have a problem with my system. I've been out of the game for a while now, so need someone to double check that my solution is actually workable, since this is moving a bit beyond my experience zone. Then I need product suggestions. Okay, here's my current system: HU: Pioneer P880PRS...
