This is how it works regardless of shipping company. Person pays for the item(s) and when they get to customs....the importer either needs to pay the tariff or it'll sit in a warehouse. The Chinese (or whatever other country) company you bought from has their money regardless. It's on the importer to pay the tariff rate.

If that were the case then all these countries wouldn't care if the product sat in warehouses. Nobody would except local retail stores. I believe you are incorrect here.

You quoted me with an asinine take (which you've done several times already in the past few weeks). If you don't understand how tariffs work, don't get butthurt when I respond with reality. The reality is that importers pay the tariff fees. If you order something from an overseas company, YOU are responsible for paying to get the products through customs.

Easy. I know a furniture retailer that decided to split the cost of the tariffs with the exporter and leave retail price the same. Here's another example, when a car dealership gets a hot model in, they will mark it up above and beyond the normal mark up. Do you honestly believe that in the course of human history, that a retailer has never chosen to keep prices the same despite an increase in COGS? How is it that I'm able to consistently pick up snowboarding gear at ~50% off if retailers never adjust their mark up?

Jimi. We are talking about the absolutes of math, that you claim are not absolute.
Go ahead and use your cost-sharing idea in your example calculations if you want. Even with a cost-share, the COGS on the furniture goes up.

And, we're not talking about goods that are being closed out or unloaded to make way for new stock.
No one is buying stuff from overseas so that they can unload it in a "50% OFF!" sale (after they doubled the retail price like JC Penney).

So again, using the basic calculation, please show me mathematically how you can increase the COGS and maintain markup without increasing the price and profit.

COGS x (1+MARKUP) = SELLING PRICE; SELLING PRICE - COGS = PROFIT
$10 1.40 $14 $14 $10 $4

You asked me this same question. Did you already forget that I screenshotted your posts where you said the Chinese exporter pays the US import tariff?

And more recently you made THIS claim:
"Trump is literally telling China if they want to sell their $100 imitation iPhone headphones here it will cost them an additional 125%. Those headphones now cost $225 before they even reach our shores."
You are saying it will cost THEM an additional 125%.
THEM being the Chinese exporter.

That means NOT the IMPORTER.

So yes, you claimed that the importer does not pay the import tariff.

It's the right wing misinformation machine. Trump has repeatedly said that he was going to start making other countries pay through tariffs.....which is just fundamentally wrong. It's not even difficult to lookup the basics on tariffs.....but some people just refuse to do the minimal amount of investigation to find out the facts. Or they are intentionally ignoring facts.

Ummmm, did you not read your own posts that Rob quoted there? First "charge China the high tariff" certainly suggests that they are being charged for the tariff. You know....words and stuff. And then in that second post, you say that a $100 pair of shoes from China will only pocket them $75 because of the 25% tariff. Now how exactly is that not suggesting that China pays the tariff???
