But Fauci wasn't "his man." Fauci was really his foil. Fauci would go on TV daily and say "lockdown, mask, social distancing." Trump (or a surrogate) would be on Fox daily saying "Lockdown bad, mask bad, social distancing bad." And it went like that for ~7-8 months until Trump lost the election.

He could've fired him at any point. He didn't for some reason. He must've liked him because Trump fires anybody who disagrees with him.
