The vaccine slows down transmission AND helps people not get as ill as they did without the vaccine. That much has been proved.

Reduce the number of transmissions and it works like the “and they told two friends, and so on…” in reverse. Like a geometric regression. .

No one said the vaccine is the be-all/end-all. It IS already obvious that it is buying us TIME. With time, perhaps they WILL figure out a way to eradicate the virus like they have done with other illnesses. While reducing the number of deaths.

Of course, with people insisting on having the right to get sick and continue to spread this thing, it will just take longer and cost more lives than necessary.
But, you know, FREEDOM! PATRIOTS!
I’m not saying it doesn’t work at all, but a mandate on it isn’t going to end the pandemic. The polio vaccine stopped polio dead in its tracks, so it worked. There weren’t this amount of breakthrough infections I don’t think.

Except the times when they didn’t fully kill the virus for vaccines and a bunch of people got sick.
And it was far from “stopped dead in its tracks”. WPV1 was still around in 1999. WPV2&3 as recently as 2016.
The 1916 surge brought 6,000 deaths for the country.

At 600,000 deaths in a year, we were on track for a serious culling of the herd if radical action was not taken. The “radical action” of a vaccine.

The mandate would not exist if this was a virus that killed hundreds or even thousands.
SEVEN HUNDRED THOUSAND in the US alone is a really different ball game. Sadly, a mandate becomes necessary because of the millions of people that won’t do the right thing, and the fact that we need to get the country out of this ness post-haste.
We can’t afford full economic collapse while we wait for natural immunities to develop.

The economic collapse is because of the response to the virus, not the virus itself. It’s hard to argue with your logic on mandating things because it is purely logic, void of any human emotion. If this virus is mutating, which it likes it looks like it does, a vaccine would be like the flu vaccine. A yearly event. I just don’t see the practicality in doing a mandate constantly. Our government can’t police a lemonade stand without screwing it up. It would help if they had a shred of credibility with a lot of people, but they don’t. You trust them more than I do I guess
