Fully vaccinated people are still dying from covid. It’s happening too often. I personally know 3 vaccinated people who have contracted covid, although they didn’t get very sick. Not sure if the vaccine helped or if they wouldn’t have gotten very sick to begin with. This is why I am not totally convinced that the vaccine helps get a milder case if you do have a breakthrough infection. How do we know the person wouldn’t have gotten very sick even without even taking the vaccine? Asymptomatic infection is common in unvaccinated people already, so I’m not sure how you can know if the vaccine actually helped that or not. There’s a lot of odd things about this pandemic. Having questions about things doesn’t make someone a vaccine denier. This isn’t our religion.
When you're dealing with the blue sky effects of things, it boils down to correlation and causation.
Does the mere existence of a police force keep crime numbers lower than they would be without one? Hard to say unless you can compare two very similar cities, one with and one without a force.
Will you EVER know that your three friends were helped by the vax? No.
Does it say anything that I have three friends of similar age and overall health who got COVID, one who is unvaccinated and now can't walk without a walker and will be out of work for 6 months, the other two who got sick and were back to work within 2 1/2 weeks but are vaccinated? No. It's too small a statistical sampling.
BUT the FACT that the very vast majority of people who are being hospitalized with COVID are NOT vaccinated says a whole lot. Is it a coincidence that out of three people I personally know who got COVID, the one who is unvaccinated got it the worst? Possibly.
It is coincidence that out of 3,143,513 hospital admissions due to COVID, more than 3,112,077 (an excess of 99%) of them are NOT vaccinated? Sorry, when you hit numbers like that, calling it a coincidence is being utterly blind to math and statistics.
It's like claiming the dramatic reduction in auto deaths following mandatory seatbelt laws is just a coincidence, or that it's just a coincidence that more deaths or sever injuries happen to non-helmeted motorcyclists in accidents than helmeted ones, or just a coincidence that casinos keep as much as 99.5% of the money that goes into slot machines (an adjustable percentage, by the way).
The bigger the statistical sampling, the easier it is to rule out coincidence, happenstance, poor timing, etc. A statistical sampling in the multiple MILLIONS? Please...
