It’s an issue because the problem for poor people isn’t the minimum wage being too low. It’s buying power that matters. Without price controls, buying power doesn’t get a gain from minimum wage raising because prices rise to compensate, lowering your buying power. The way the math works out, is that minimum wage raising actually hurts the middle class, where most small business owners sit, not because they have to pay employees more, but because their buying power just got lowered. It’s just an empty argument that doesn’t help or hurt any poor person, but does brings down the middle class a notch, and the rich stay getting richer.
