Gunz That Turn on Nunz
really depends on your cabin gain, lets say your vehicle peaks at 48hz and with a typical sealed box, your output falls off a cliff at 35hz(it still plays it but weak as fk vs the other frequencies) Now you do a ported box at 30hz relatively normal to small size, you'll still have an output difference at 48hz and the frequencies under, So if you increased the box size to increase peakiness at port tuning frequency, your overall in car response would start to flatten out more.Got ya. I would assume that was the case. You all have mentioned a larger box being more peaky but I thought I had read that a flatter response was a benefit of going big.
However if your car has relatively decent accoustics with not much peaks or multiple peaks(high and low) then you'd actually want the moderate sized for flatter response.
Also the sub you have matters too, this is where winisd comes along and you can see how the sub behaves and reacts without cabin gain included. Some subs will play flatter with a big box, some will play flatter with a small box. But in general you'll see the peak in the response get bigger and bigger the more airspace you add along with the group delay getting sloppier and sloppier but SPL increases quite a bit too though, so there's trade offs.
