Free-air sub setup- Is this legit?

A member in one of the groups i'm apart of has this install. It has never made any sense to me. Anyone care to dissect it for me? It's a pair of free-air JL 12's firing directly into the back seat.

Isn't the point to separate the front and rear waves? I don't think firing the front wave into a brick wall is part of the plan. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

What JLs are those? Iv owned a ton of jls including w6v3 and w7 and none of the ***** looked like that

edit: I think they are infinite baffle marine speakers made by jl

As long as the rear wave is separate from the front it should be fine.

Most infinite baffle setups fire into the rear seats usually with a 5 or 6 inch gap between sub and seat.

The subs are basically w6 tweaked for infinite baffle. I'm sure they prolly sound great if he has them sealed off right
