in my mind its all about the box. N since u want SQ, a sealed box is a good choice. I'm guessing since kicker is more in the spl range I would choice type r's. How ever I have heard some L7/5's that sound great. There are subs though that sound better than both. Search a little before u purchase either.

Get 2 type 10" E's instead of 1 type R if your stuck that size sealed enclosure. They'd have better SQ, and probably get just as loud.

Everybody hates on the E's, but I've had a few in the past, and I thought they were a decent sub for $55 shipped brand new.

I just bought two type R that replaced my JBL W12GTi MKII and wow. Big difference, not only were they Louder but sound so much better. I have heard every Kicker except the X and I don't think they compare. The Type R is rated for 500 watts RMS, I am pounding each with 1500 watts RMS and it still wants more. I would definetely put them in a ported box. Sealed blows, I have mine in a Pontiac G6 with 2.25 ported box with the slot port being 10x2x13 and it sounds awesome. Great sounding with all genres of music. Plus, I would be willing to bet that with my seats down I am probably hiting close to 150 DB because it is hard to swollow. Thats my 2 cents. Go with type R's bro

They handle alot more and sound alot better,

It's also a subwoofer only company so I think they know what ther are doing
