Anyone know much about a MTX Terminator MTA 250. My dad used to have one hooked up to four 12s at .4 ohms and said it slammed. One of his friends has 2 of them that he is not using that he will sell me. Anyone had any experience with this amp? I know its really old amp but I heard its very good.

I will be hooking it up to two dual 4 ohm 2005 L5s.

Thanks.

yes I had one about 5 years ago are they the red ones? if so those are the ones i had. they are what you would call a cheater amp, iirc they did about 400-600 watts bridged...good amps, when most all your amps were made in the usa...and i think you could run them @ 1 ohm or .5 its been a long time.

Yeah its red. Its 0.5 ohm stable. My dad when he had his SEVERAL years ago he was running it at 0.4 ohm and i think he said it was putting out every bit of 800 watts.

Just kind of wondering if 800 watts back then is the same as 800 watts today. He had that 1 amp hooked up to four 12s and put a db meter to it, but unfortunately the db meter only went to 145 and his system maxed it out.

My dad, in 1988 paid $600 for that amp.

also what do you mean by "cheater" amp?

Today 800 watts would be about the average per subwoofer given that most people arent throwing 2000 watts to a sub. I have 2500+ on two subs but I only know about 10 people with that much power. Most have roughly 1000 watts on the substage and less than 400 on the mids and highs. Just my estimate. Others will probably disagree but each area of the country is different. Obviously in places like L.A. or Miami where more people have systems, the chances of meeting people with bigger setups grows.

well we hooked the amp up today and it wasn't as loud and didn't sound as good as it does with my audiobahn a8000t. Thanks for everyones help. Feel free to keep discussing this if you would like.

You can wire those subs up @8 ohms if they are both SVC4 ohm subs, and that amp will run fine after being tuned properly...
