any1 ever messed around with one of these before? ive got sever of these i could buy, a 2.8 1989, a 3.1 1993, and a 3.1 1994. The 1994 i could get for free basically =D just have to trade my sister cars, =( darn, trade my 93 cutlass cierra s with a 3.3 v6 with all the options and only 66k miles for my sisters 94 z24 with 130k. other 2 i could get for less than 200 bucks because they have a blown enging. I hear they can get fast, but what do you all think about it? if i were to get 1 i would of course get car audio in it first =D and get a good electrical system up and running. then i would prolly do enging work, intake, exhaust, reformat ecu....

The GM 60degree V6 engine(2.8, 3.1, 3.4) isn't exactly fast. the only mods for it are an aluminum block, cams(if you can find them), and they used to make some highcompression pistons for them I believe. I used to own a gen2 cavalier and it really isnt worth putting money in to it. However they do sound pretty nice with a magnaflow exhaust on there.

it actually sounds good as it sits. it has more of a deep throated sound then the normal sound. And also, do you know anything about the ecotec motors? i hear they are pretty good, but i cant really find out anything about them. Lotta ppl on j-body.org reccommend them.

Those ******** 2.8's and 3.1's are pains in the ***.

Coil packs constantly failing

ECMs failing

Aternators burning up from insufficient cooling in the cavalier engine bay.

Main bearings that only last 150 000 miles.

Shitty gas milage.

Crappy gaskets.

Rear sparkplugs are all but impossible to replace.

Weak timing chains.

Leaky and expensive cooling system.

Crappy Idler pulley system causing excessive belt wear.

Don't invest in one of these money pits, I owned a 90 Z24 with a 3.1 and put more into repairs in the first 2years then I paid for the whole car.

The only two chevy V6 motors that I would trust is the 4.3 and the classic 3.8.

I hear that. My last vehicle was a 87 2.8 S10 Blazer that had almost all of those problems including a failing oil pump that isn't able to be replaced without a new block. I guess 185k miles isn't all that bad for that engine though.
