Your opinion: AA Assassin 8 vs. JL 8W7 "Heavy Eight"

I enjoy the sound that I'm getting from my factory radio. Yes, I'm sick. And no, you can't talk me out of my guilty pleasure! Any way, I am a bit of a bass head and need a little more sound pressure from the low end. Something that you can feel in your gut. And I'm not interested in taking up my entire trunk with a box. My factory system all ready has two 6x9's subs on the rear deck, or I would mount a FA sub there. I want to keep the spare tire accessable, so I'm looking at an area that is about 1 cuft behind the tire well and tail light. If I subtract the box and the speaker, this wouldn't be enough room for a 10. Therefore, I'm looking at an 8...

Could you help me compare the pro's and con's of each of these two sub soofers? Does anyone here know how they actually sound, or if they compare to each other?

JL Audio 8W7-3:

Pro: 300 Watt RMS

Con: Size, price

Ascendent Audio Assassin 8:

Pro: Cost, small box size

Con: ?

how bout an RL-i 8...They can handle well over what they are rated at..Most people put 400 rms to them..Little more expensive than the AA but cheaper than the w7. For an 8" driver, you get **** low and sound good while doing it..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I didn't expect so many opinions! All good, keep them coming //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It's actually suprising me that a $300 subwoofer isn't always the one that comes as most recomended. Perhaps it's just overpriced?

So listing the suggestions here...

DUB Doesn't seem to list an 8" ???

Ascendent Audio: Assassin 8 $50

Sound Splinter: RL-i Series 8 $165

JL Audio: 8W7-3 $299

So you're looking to install just a single 8"?? I've never modeled any of those 8"s up but if you're looking for max output from a single 8", the AA may not be enough. It's an entry level sub that wasn't designed to compete w/the 8w7...

If you had room for a few 8s, then the AA would be great. You could buy 3 for the price of one RL-i 8 w/much more output.

If the RL-i can handle 500-600 rms w/o breaking, it would probably be a good choice and likely give more output than the AA..someone should model these up...

BTW, I have a PG Ti10 that I ran for a little while. It only needed .4/.5 sealed and only .8 ported. That little sub got quite loud....
