Youch! Car Audio... what?

Geez... Hey guys. I'm new to this whole Car Audio thing, although I really want a good system. I've been trying to understand what you guys are talking about, ohms and all the numbers and stuff... but I guess I must be missing underlying knowledge somewhere. Where could I get some information to get started?

I have a 1998 Chevy Blazer, so I have some room to work with a good system. I listen to Alternative and Rap, so I was thinking 2 12s. That's about as far as I've gotten. When I try to start thinking of Amps and powering and wiring, I get lost really fast. I wanted to do this myself, getting stuff off the net and installing them so I wouldn't have to pay a ton at a main dealer, but I dunno if I can now. Any advice? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

For info about car audio, try http://www.soundillusions.net that should help explain some general info. Now for choosing subs, and amps, and wires and so-on. Id say the best thing is to go to a few dealers and listen to what they have hooked up and see if you like the sound. And dont be afraid to ask them questions. When choosing subs/speakers choose a good quality Company and 1 that sounds good to you. When choosing an amp try and match the RMS(continues power) of the sub/speakers to the RMS(continues power) of the amp. Most important, the amount of cash you want to spend.

Hope I helped you out, if not post another question and ill do my best to answer it.

Just my 2 cents........................

Hmm. Well, I guess I want something that'll be heard outside the blazer, but'll will still be good sound quality. I want smooth bass, but loud. I would like to go as cheap as I kind (cheap not meaning the quality of the equipment, but the price). Um, there is a pretty good dealer here... I just don't want to be ripped off in price or anything. I guess I could spend up to $1000 or so, for starters.

Do I need to match brands with amps and subs? Also... someone fill me in on the watts and ohms thing. I keep seeing them in different places.

Thanx

BTW... would it be good just to get everything done at a dealer? I'm just worried about someone messing with all the wiring and all...

if your willing to spend a 1000 bucks that will put you a pretty descent system in your blazer.

Try JL........they have great sound quality and they get loud.... wouldnt go past the W6's tho cause they cost to much but W0, W3, and W6's are great subs for the price.

since you dont have much experiance, it might be good for you to start with a radio or speaker install, one of the hardest things to do is an amp. If you live near a Circuit City thats a good place to go, they usually have buy one get on free subs(alpine type-e are great). The best thing is that they have lifetime warranty one the installs. If you have problems just take it back. As far as matching equipment, it doesnt really matter, you could get an MTX 6500d and two Alpine Type-E subs, that would hit pretty hard.
