yellow or red top?

which optima battery would do best under the hood and for cranking the amps out once the engine is started? not looking for power when my car is off but mainly for when its on. also must be for daily. thx for the replies!
Deep cycle is slow release? right? so why would the yellow do any better than red? ONCE the car is on.

The deep cycle doesn't release it slow it cen run down to almost complete discharge without harming the battery.

They are made to be ran without an alt like boats and tractors.A regular battery can discharge its current quikley for starting a vehicle and the likes but then once the vehicle is started the alt kicks in and supplies power and recharges the battery.

I've ran yellow tops down to 0 volts with no ill effects.

People, read the OP's original post.^

A red top is ideal for his situation.

The yellow top is a better battery all around, no doubt. But for what he's using it for it is not necassary.

If that is the case then just get a regular battery!!Unless he is getting the YT or the BT running an optima is just a waste of money.Buy a 1000cca regular battery and save yourself some money.

We are just trying to inform him what the differances are.

the yellow top does transfer slower. It has thicker plates inside, so they dont get degraded easier(deep cycle and also charges slower), where as the red top use thinner plates inside for a faster transfer rate(also faster charging), but downside is battery doesnt do so good on its own with the car off. if you are constantly dipping into the battery with the car on then i say get the yellow but note you should step that alty up too if you are doing that soo much. but other than a red top will do the job

red top is not really a waste. it has its benefits. its sealed for one, no maintenance and can stand all sorts of abuse weather wise.

We are talking milli secs here nothing that is like hold on wait for it....Yes they do have the thicker plates but the issue is if you are constantly drainig the battery or pulling 400a current the RT wouldn't be any better then a regular battery. The deep cycle is made to do that and not be damaged in a relativly short time.

If you want to spend the extra money to have a maintenace free battery that youcan mount upside down go right ahead.I'm just stating that for less money you can get the same prefomance as the RT.

While I thought this at first, I don't think that's the OP's intention. When he states, "cranking the amps out once the engine is started," I believe he is asking which battery will best help his amplifiers by 'cranking the amps out'. If that is the case, a yellow top would be his best choice.

It makes a difference in the lanes. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Also the red top gives you much better starting power in the cold. Thus not making it a better all around battery.

Red tops are not made for the current demands of a stereo... reds are starting batteries not deep cycle... yellow tops all the way..
You are aware starting a car can take 250-300 amps right? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
