XXX15 not loud enough. Help!

I just got a XXX15 and i put it in my Magnum12 3.5^ft box tuned to 33hz, with my jbl1200.1. 3.5 cubes is pretty big, but it still doesn't seem loud enough to me. I kinda wanted to go sealed for more SQ but then it wont be loud enough for sure. What would be sum good tuning frequencies for a different ported box? I only have about 3.5 cubes to work with. Or should I go sealed. Maybe a bigger amp? But how many more watts would I need. Would 1600w really make a difference over the 1200? Also, my trunk rattles alot. I thought maybe that was absorbing alot of bass. I was thinking about turning my box around to fire into the cabin while having the seat down where the port is.

BTW i don't listen to rap. For rap this thing gets pretty **** low, but I listen to metal with alot of Double Bass drum kicks and I want them to hit harder. Any1 know my best option?

Please help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

It fires towards the trunk lid, not towards the seats. I'm sure i set the gains correctly. I made a bass test cd and set the gain till it was at its peak loudness. Its probably around 3/4 the way up. Maybe a lil less. And the box basically takes up the whole trunk. Is that a bad thing?

That amp just isn't enough for an XXX 15". Now if you had one on each coil that would be a whole nother story. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

my friend runs 2300 watts daily to his 15" xxx. gets loud. i think your just need another amp. that amp is 1200 watts when its peaked out so your prolly gettin less than that when you have the volume 3/4 of the way up. the magnum is alot more efficient than the xxx so youll need less power to get a good ammount of outut from the mag as you noticed

man i dont understand. I have a kicker kx 1200.1 on my 12" XXX in a small sealed box and the bass is way too loud for me for daily driving. in fact i have to leave the bass boost on 0, the gain is like 1/3, and i have to leave all the settings on my HU to flat for the sub.

maybe its the kicker :-/

you should get one of those //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif!

The "kick" in the double bass of metal is probably alot higher frequency than you think, that is usually midbass duty. Never-the-less with poor transient response, a ported box would not be able to play it well regardless. Seal it up and you should notice a difference in SPL in the area you seem to want it, I would never port a sub for just metal, a sealed 15 will already have an exagerated lowend with cabin gain if left un-eq'd.

I agree, the kicker is going to feed a lot more rms power to the sub than a JBL. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

15XXX will not sound good with heavy metal. My 15'' RE HC sucked *** with heavy metal. I switched to 4 RE8s, and holy ****ing shit did it make a difference. I suggest you take advantage of the current off and sell the XXX and get a few RE8s. You will be very happy you did that. Trust me. I listen to heavy metal exclusively, and the RE8s have no competition.

You can also keep the XXX, get a 300x2 amp and power up some RE8s for midbass too.
