Xtant 603

Just wondering if the Xtant 603 amp will be enough to power 2 10" Alpine Type R at 2 ohms and my front and rear speakers?

My local dealer is offering this amp for a great deal, just want to make sure its enough to run those subs. Thanks!

What kind of deal are you getting? That amp is nearly 10 years old. If memory serves me right...the 3rd channel will put out roughly 300 watts @ 2 ohms (IMO, those subs need at least that amount per driver...I would recomend a single dual 2 ohm typr r for that amp).

Wow 10 years old? Did they continue making that model for many years? It was new in a box.

I need to power some infinity kappa fronts and rears and then a pair of 10" type R's Any recommendations? I'd like to stay close to $400 for amps if possible.

if that amp is brand new that price is alright i found used ones for around 250, and a new one for $360 with shipping and that was just a quick search.

Why is that? Do '500 watt subs' not turn on or something unless you hook them up to a 1kW amp? No...of course not. Those big Xtants have quite a bit of guts to them and sound a lot bigger than the specs lead on. The sub channel on that amp is more than enough for a pair of W6's and I see no reason why it wouldn't beat up a pair of Alpine subwoofers.

The thing I'd be worried about are dried out caps. You may pop a cap when it's first hooked up to power and you'll probably be SOL as far as a warranty goes b/c those amps are nightmares to repair and I highly doubt Mitek would service it.

If the amp works & there isn't a noise issue from the caps aging, I think you'll love it.

Obviously. Unless he's going to run a overly large box, that amp will not be able to push those two Type-R's to their potential, plain and simple. I've had that amp before, I know what it's capable of. And while they are underrated, I definitely wouldn't not try to push a couple of Type-R's with the sub channel. It had a hard enough time with a pair of old Assassins. More than likely he's going to clip it trying to get the output he wants with the 400-500 watts of clean power that he has available.

Thanks guys, I think I will go another way. My local dealer told me they were under rated but that does seem like a big difference.

Also the box is in the back of my jeep wrangler. It has 2 individually sealed .85 cubic inch slots.
