Xenon 10" and tuning Q's

So I have everything together and installed, but now I need to tune. I know how to set gains, and use the JL tutorial. I read Jmacs thread but still have some Q's to make sure I don't hurt my sub.

The FS = lowest possible safe frequency the sub can play at rated power? The Xenon is 26.75, so I would X-over at 30?

Anyways, I recently purchased a Xenon 600.1 that PG confirmed is rated at 821 watts before 1% distortion at 14.3v. My car at warmest averages a 14.0 voltage. (sqrt[600*1]) = 24.5 volts, assuming I want maximum possible power to hit this sub be 600 watts. I would make sure that the components reach their max desired volume at the same max voltage setting as the mono-amp?

Such as, I make the sub hit 24.5volts (DMM) at volume 45 on the deck, so I would make my components hit their respective voltage at the same volume setting.

All I need is 60 Hz and 1k Hz test tones, right?

Just making sure I have this right, it sounds right in my head //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

It seems right, I think lol. I just woke up so I might have missed something.

Set your sub at a 50 or 60 hz tone.

Your comps at 1khz.

Set at the same volume on your head unit, with all EQs flat.

And for setting your amp for 600 RMS, if the sub can handle 600 RMS perfectly, then I would set it to like 700-750 RMS on a tone.

Chances are it wont see that during music, just don't be throwing any full on sine waves at full tilt lol.

When I set mine at exactly 1200 RMS or 1400 RMS on a sine wave, the sub always acts like its underpowered, even though 1400 RMS should be perfect. This is because during music, it's not going to see a full on 50 / 60 hz sine wave.. lol, does that make sense?

So I would go just a bit over that for the subwoofer.

I understand the musical ~= to sine waves. The Xenon 10" takes 450 RMS so i figured setting it to 600 would be good because I never play full tilt, and also the musical aspect. I know PG's tech let it take 2k watts sine, and it blew after 20 mins, I figured that's a fairly strong sub. So it could take an occasional 5 mins of maybe 500 watts rms, if it even gets close to that.

Everything else fits. I'm going to be tuning for volume setting of 45 out of 62, but unfortunately access to my amp where it is limits my tuning (on the speaker amp) So I have to do that by ear.

This Xenon makes the X10" pound ridiculous though. My rear deck needs an anchor, it rattles so much haha.

Ran into a problem, none of the links here allow access or work anymore for the free test tones.

Anyone able to host up a zippable form? I'm on a mac OSX if it matters.

Thanks for any help or direction.

In that case, then it should be good. I had to set my pioneer to 52/62 because its only 2 volts. They generally dont start clipping until about 61/62, so anything under 55 you should be good.

Not sure what Preout yours has.

I say next thing is next... videos and pictures //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

They are 2.2 volt pre-outs.

And yes, when I get stuff setup, I'll be taking pictures. I have the whole system on a temporary install, all bare and unworked wood, but it's loud and dense //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The sub is too loud when turned up, I've only felt this much bass in a buds car with 2 12" ported subs. I'm happy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Well, as asked for, some pics of my test setup:

K, The link is a go, sounds bad though.

Looks like you got some pretty good excursion goin on there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Did you attempt to fiberglass the top part of the box? Lol, I'm sorry but you need to get that thing carpeted :p

Ya, and I just found my test tones so I'm actually going to tune it for a load of 550 RMS and reshoot a vid of the system //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

As far as carpeting, I'm actually going to paint it. I'm going to smooth out all of the edges, and I'm thinking of dremmeling a Subaru symbol into it, filling the symbol in with the World Rally Blue, and then the rest of the enclosure will be covered with Steel Grey Metallic (my car color) and have 4 coats of clear thrown on. When I get off of my lazy *** //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

And I'm waiting to get my Xenon 200.4 and the 95 Sq. Yards of Raamat to create my Amp rack.
