Ok so im buying a avic - d1 and hooking an xbox or ps2 possibly cause as you all no it cant play dvds on its own only the map ones.... Now does anyone know if either of them will play dvd-r's or dvd-rw's sorry if this is a stupid ? just wasnt really sure never had tried it before and couldnt find any info on it .....???

thanks

Why not just wait from the xBox 360 to come out? The skinny ps2 isnt as good as everyone makes it. It skips very easily which with strong audio and/or a rough road, wouldnt be playable.

strong audio - as in 4 type r's lol......... why buy a xbox 360 when i already have an xbox? I would much rather by some more car audio stuff than that thing when it first comes out ill wait for it to come down in price.

thanks for the info on the slim ps2 though didnt know it skipped easily

i would be almost positive that the original xbox does not play dvd-r/rw due to the fact it's too old. when xbox first came out dvd burning technology wasn't around, therefore they couldn't build it to handle them.

and no the original ps2 doesn't play them. but you were looking at the slim anyway so you should be ok.

i would wait for the 360, but i have a much greater passion for video games than for car audio

SOME xbox's play DVD-R/+R/RW

it all depends on the drive(DVDROM) you have in your xbox. Every version of the Xbox had a different drive. The Thompsons are the best, i have a phillips in mine and it plays everything verry well.

Some Disc's work better then others also when it comes to the xbox.

I have the ps2 slim.. it is really hard to skip...
I didnt kno the ps2 slim could read burned disks are u sure about that?
Yeah it plays DVD-RW's that I make, I burn movies all the time and the work. I have never tried a CD-RW though.

that is correct. the samsung drives are the best ones. However, they do all play burned DVDs. Thomson drives just have a harder time doing it. If you were to mod your xbox, it would be a lot easier. However, that is another story altogether.

Xbox DVD player > PS2. by far.
