Foss, the 360 can process 1080p natively as of last years spring update through the component cables, the addition of HDMI just further enhances that option.
Get ya facts straight! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
interesting, considering component vid cables are incapable of carrying anything higher than 1080i //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif . HDMI is required to handle 1080p signal, it can carry lesser signals, but is pointless to run such an expensive cable when cheaper ones can do the job. as for the 360 outputting progressively at 1080, this was news to me. but sure enough, i looked in my 360 menu, and there it was. i learned something new //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif . doesent do much good though, im not sure of any games in 1080p, and im sure as hell not going to buy the hdDVD drive until there is a clear winner between blu ray and hdDVD.
PS3 does OUTPUT in 1080p and they have a few games that can play in it (NBA Street is the one I own)....and you can tell the difference SLIGHTLY when it's on when it's 1080i and 1080p...i played a blu-ray on both settings and you can definitly tell....I am not sure what the guy means when he says the ps3 can't output ps3?
alright, a little more digging and i found some more information. sony has (very recently) proven that it can indeed output at 1080p. however, there are currently VERY few games that are written in 1080p, and even sony executives have admitted that getting the frame rate high enough, and limiting compression is all but impossible to encode at 1080p for games. so for the time being, dont expect 1080p to be the future of gaming, at least not anytime soon.
the bluray player is more likely to make use of 1080p resolution. but again, for the time being, there isnt much recorded in a true 1080p resolution. the current standard for resolutions is currently 1080i. going to progressive scanning creates a situation where the frame rate will be so low the action will be choppy for gameplay, and the amount of compression required to fit the data onto a disc nearly completely negates the higher resolution.
so there ya go, got all my info from google if anyone wants to look it up themselves //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif . so for all those saying "my ps3 looks best/killer/360 beating in 1080p", no it doesent. no it wont. and the 360 is still just as capable as the ps3. the only disadvantage it has is the lack of the bluray player. which currently, with the future of both hd movie formats undecided, isnt a clear disadvantage IMO.
