XBox 360 as HU?

My buddy and I have an install plan that is to just get loud in his slammed s10.

Instead of a HU we thought of running the XBox 360 as such. I was thinking an EQ after just for some control to an electronic crossover.

Sounds legit to me what do you guys think?

I think it's a bad idea, personally.

It takes a while for an Xbox to boot up. Much like a CarPuter, except with a lot less options than a CarPuter. I mean, technically it can be done... but, eh... I'd rather go with a $300 dollar HU than an Xbox 360 which won't have HALF The options nor will it have the capabilities of a normal HU when it comes to sound quality and options.

Dude... you're hurting my fcking ears. NO! I don't think, as an audiophile, I can allow you to do that. I will travel to MI(Where ever that is) and tear those 16 coaxials out then burn them in gasoline...

Which is saying a lot given the price of gas now a days.

I figured I could get away without using a sound card. I figured it wouldn't be hard to control if the EQ and the X over are outboard.

The whole purpose is just to draw attention. Its a show truck.

I wouldn't do that. From personal experience, those 360 is very sensitive. I was testing out to see how much power I need to run the 360 in the car and the armrest slightly, I mean slightly, dropped onto the top of the 360 and it messed up my game and wouldnt work. With a bunch of bass, I can see the same thing possibly happening if it is not secure.

If you are in need of a power supply to run it, I have a Vector 750w one that I wouldn't mind selling. It was used just to test the 360 and it worked and, well, I don't have my Accord anymore.

Yeah. To say the least you can't play a game while driving... and while you are driving take the game the fck out...

Oh, and make sure it has good air flow.

Xbox's are shipped over-clocked to hell...

360 + vibrations dont mix.

not to mention 360+ tight spaces dont mix either

I know a couple of my friends who red ringed their 360's because they kept them inside their entertainment centers. I cant imagine how hot they will run being inside a truck in whatever enclosure

i use a modded original xbox and it works great. 8 second start up before it automatically starts playing a playlist much better than most car pcs, i had it running directly to my 4 ch amp but the start up bubbly screen was full volume and hurt your ears, after that you have total control of volume. there dirt cheap and can be modded without a modchip and will support up 1TB ide hard drives. as for vibrations killing hard drives ive had mine for over 3 yrs year round (cold mn nights and crappy roads) and havent had any hard drive problems Seagate ftw. great sound, plays ANY file formats (audio and video) and theres even a feature to prevent all clipping even at full xbox volume. XBMC has aa bunch of different skins to change the entire interface too. below is how mines setup.
