The Eclipse 55090 DVD tuner turned in good bench numbers. The CD section had good output level, a good S/N ratio, low distortion, and good D/A linearity. Its frequency response had a mild 1.4-dB rolloff at the high end. Its tuner section was slightly better than average, with good S/N and selectivity numbers and good FM frequency response. I wished FM distortion had been slightly lower, but it was about average for head units. The 39011 processor had similarly good performance, with good S/N and distortion figures. No problems here. —KCP
