My name is Scott Buwalda. I have been a musician since I was 10 years old, and have successfully parlayed the love of music into a highly technical profession of designing and building super high-end car audio loudspeakers and electronics, and owning my own company, Hybrid Audio Technologies. In addition to my duties as founder and president of Hybrid Audio, I am involved with regular consultation on purpose-built vehicles (and can be coerced into building vehicles as well). I also proctor and host advanced acoustics seminars around the world; I just got back from Trinidad and am slated to start a U.S. tour later this year (beyond that, I am giving thought to an Australian tour and have been recently contacted to consider a tour of Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand).
I am a three-time IASCA Expert Division World Champion, and multiple national- and regional-champion in organized car audio sound quality competition.
I have assisted in the design, build-up, and was the primary tuner for more than a dozen IASCA, MECA, and USACi vehicles that achieved World Championship victories in the 2005 – 2007 seasons, not to mention at least that many more in second through fifth placements. I am regularly consulted by IASCA and CAN for rules input.
As far as mass media exposure, I have recently been involved as the host for a potential future reality television show that focuses on speed, styling, and sound enhancements in vehicles. I have been the subject of thirteen full-length articles, and have been featured on SPEED Radio, Car & Driver Radio, and Sound & Vision Radio (internationally syndicated radio).
From an educational perspective, I have both my Bachelor of Science and Master of Science. No "piled higher and deeper" (aka PhD) for me at this time.
I am a car freak that turned a high school hobby into an obsession. Who would have known "booming" around the Lake Worth Christian High School parking lot would turn out later to be a career which takes me around the world hosting technical seminars, winning world championships, owning my own business that racked up more world championships last year than all other speaker manufacturers combined, being interviewed for syndicated radio and television, magazine exposure, and potentially being the host of a television show. It's really almost too much to fathom. I am living my dream.
My other hobbies include: college football (GO CANES!), vehicle speed/performance modification, hanging out with my wife and kids and doing fun stuff "away from home" with them. My wife and I celebrate 15 years of marriage on June 26th, and we have two great kids. When things get crazy with life, my wife and kids are there to support and love me, and keep me grounded
