The idea was spiders spaced wide apart give more stability than spiders mounted closer together. Imagine holding a long pipe in both hands. If you hold it in the center, with both hands very close together, its much less stable than if you are holding it with your hands spread wide apart. This is the idea behind LVS. Unfortunately, it totally removes the speaker from any discussion involving practicality. A pretty large down-side considering that the up-side is linear excursion stability that other subs really dont suffer from either. In theory its a good idea. In reality, it doesn't help much but hurts a whole lot.
