Yeah, 10 years is about average lifespan for stock alts with normal load. When running high-power sound systems, the alt is running more often, shortening the life. Like someone said, replace it, ignore the idiots saying the wire fried it, and move on.

Unless, of course, it was a faulty wiring job, like something shorted out or something. In which case, fix it before you kill another alt. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

no faulty wiring. i had a fused 1/0 run direct from the alt. not sparking or anything at all. i also added 1/0 to the stock grounds. what makes me mad is my parents think that my bigger wire fried it because the mechanic said so.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif i was like well the alt is ten years old and i am pulling over 1500 rms on it. i dont think it was my wire:)

it's prolly because your name is icweiner //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

What shop did you take it to? I'd definitely want them to explain to me in technical terms how a larger wire could cause an alt to fry. I love those kinda situations, when you can show them up... done it to a couple of BB or CC audio salesmen in the past... it's fun. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

But more than anything, it's a good opportunity to edumacate them so they don't continue to spread disinformation.
