Alright I have some JL XR650-CSi's in my car, and just recently one of the woofers have been acting up. I tested the leads with a DMM and the resistance showed 3.2-3.3 ... it's a 4.0ohm speaker. The speaker plays perfectly until I play heavy bass songs, and then it makes some really annoying cracking sound, sort of like a rattle. The gains have been set right because the amp hasn't been touched in 3 months and I haven't had any problems. Does a blown speaker have no continuity and therefore no resistance reading, or how do you determine if the VC is still intact?

Your coil resistance seems correct so no blown coil. Your coil could be rubbing due to some sort of failure in the suspension though. Take the driver out and check the spider and see if it either detached from the voice coil or basket. I had that happen to a brand new set of mids and it sounded just like you described.
