PEORIA —
Tracy Hermann received 50 years in prison Monday for the death of her five-month-old son, Benjamin Sargent, in February 2008.
Hermann, 22, of 3012 W. Proctor St., was charged with first dergee murder. The baby's father, James Sargent, in June was sentenced to the maximum of 100 years in prison relating to the crime.
The infant's diaper wasn't changed for at least five days and he wasn't bathed for about nine days, prosecutors said earlier. His last meal likely came three to four days before he was found, lifeless, on Feb. 12, 2008. Prolonged exposure to that unchanged diaper caused his skin to be eaten away and allowed bacteria to seep into his body, ultimately causing his death.
