i have a kicker KX400.1 mono amp powering an alpine type R. because i have no idea what is going on, i had it professionally tuned.

the sub doesnt go that loud before clipping, and the guy has the bass boost knob turned up about 1/3 of the way.

if i had it retuned so that the bass boost is at zero, could it be louder?

what is bass boost and how does it affect where the gain would be set and the volume the sub can put out?

if you have a newer H,U you do not need the bass boost the gain and the bass boost need to be set right if not it will clip. if you turn the bass boost to zero it will not hit as hard. do the gain then the bass boost and then check the gain one more time

bass boost is set to give you that added 'bump' cenetred around 40hz. If you change the bass boost, you will need to readjust the gain to avoid clipping the amp.Usually, it provides around 18db of boost, at 40hz.

bass boost is there.... JUST so you can turn it off... unless you like that shitty nasty hump...
I'd bet 95% of people on this forum have an outrageous boost in the 40-50hz area //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
