As I have no experience with the X889 I cannot say for sure. I know the layout is a bit different....there aren't any radio preset buttons on the XXV-01D whereas the normal 6 of them are spread out across the bottom of the front of the X889.
There are other minor configuration differences but I do not know if there are any true performance differences.

I got mine on ebay for 254 shipped....you may want to look there if nothing else works out. Its an amazing HU. It puts my alpine 9833 to shame.

2X on ebay. ebay would be a good choice if you have aout 250. I got my 789 for like 160 shipped.
