well- unless your son is tech savy (maybe a hacker) the version doesn't matter. He will only be playing games and listening to music- then it can be any version. Occasionaly people will look for th eolder versions so they can run "homebrew" software - like games that aren't normally playable on the PSP but are downloaded through the memory card.
