Nah, that'd restrict it too much...I've used different model remotes with the HU, it's a pioneer thing. The only issue I'd have is that I couldn't use all the features, but really all I want from it is volume control, track skipping, and the ATT function.

although it might be from a different seller. Its says "for pioneer" and is not actually pioneer. If you really want it I'd sell it to you for 6 bux. just to cover gas and payapl.com fees (doubt it would cost much to ship reg mail)
