Wow, SQ competition last weekend...help!

First off, i'd say start off with a lot of Second Skin Deadener(or dynamat xtreme etc) and deaden as much of the vehicle as possible. Then next step go over to DIYMA forum, they are SQ oriented
the bold part probably would have been deleted if that was posted on diyma, the supposedly sq forum.

Should the OP place deadener on very stiff heavily shaped and formed areas as well?

I wa on DIYMA and it seems to be a kewl site but not really what im looking for. I thought I could come here for help...this is suppossed to be "the site for car audio"...why are there a bunch of pricks here if so?
this is a car audio site. mostly spl but it has it's sq'ers. if you say diyma is not what your looking for then you don't want to learn you just want it done. so take ur credit card do some research find a reputable shop and take it there.

Sorry I now realize how stupid I was back then....lets say I have grown up. I have been researching alot. Seems like Zapco, hybrid Audio seem to be winning alot. Zapco makes processors, amps and speakers but Hybrid only appears to make speakers. Would it be better to do all Zapco since they should be all "matched" better? Too bad I only heard one car at the show with Zapco.... sounded nice but not like some of the other cars. Maybe my hearing isnt truly there yet?

Thanks for all the replies...seems a FEW of you really do want to help me.

I would love to try out some hybrid. from the reviews and builds i have seen they are a great product.

also i mentioned this before but look into dls. they make all around great products too. from amps to subs.

Brands do not make your car sound good, your install makes your car sound good. Specific speakers and amps my have qualities and features to make them more useful in a given install. You would be suprised what has won vs what in the world of SQ.

i think you were on the right track with this thread you started a while back:fyi:
LOL. I think the OP is just impulsive and since he heard SQ comp vehicles he wants/ thinks he can do so quickly.

Idk why you btch about people not helping you out but yet I've read many people suggesting that you RESEARCH first. Research, research, research. How hard is it to understand?

If you're too lazy research and if you think DIYMA isn't for you then go ahead and buy the equipment that you wanted in the provided link.

Everyone knows that best results are with >400% coverage of the entire cabin and trunk. Windows too.
I LOLed at this post for...like..half an hour!! "...windows, too."

As for the OP, it's apparent that you wat to buy your way to SQ. Many have said research. And, it's apparent you're in a hurry. So, you can either slow down, and learn first, OR...buy a few of the things you think you want, and throw them in your car. After you figure out that your car doesn't sound like the ones you liked at the competition, you will then have taken your first step to learning....the hard way.

Focusing on brand names insn't necessarily bad. It's just that so many of us know the old axioms, like..."A good install can make a bad speaker sound decent. And, a bad install can make a good speaker sound bad." Buying good components, by name, will not necessarily give you the good sound you are looking for. Knowing the reputation of a component helps. Knowing a component's design parameters helps. Knowing the physics of sound helps. Knowing these things, AND MORE, will help you to avoid buying what you DON'T NEED, as much as what you do need.

The brands that people on here that they think are "so-so" like MTX, JL, Kicker, JBL and Memphis have all won national and world championships on the pro and expert levels as well as consumer. In fact they have done so against a larger variety of competition using some of the gear most people wacked over then and still do now. Speakers, subs and amps are not huge percentages better than eachother when used to their optimized levels and are eq'd propperly. You can go right down the list in history in IASCA and USACI and see this. This is not really ripping down higher end brands rather it shows how important installation actually is. All you have to look at is the names and know. Late 90's it was team Thunderforce (MTX), early 2000's Kicker, mid 2000's JBL with the rest sprinkled in. Image Dynamics, Focal, HAT

and other very clearly used and won with.
