If I keep my ZX1000.1 and get a single AQ HDC3 18" to replace my two RE SE x 12's?

Would 6 cubes at 36 Hz work with that sub? I don't want to sacrifice any ability to play rock music but for some reason I just keep going and looking at those HDC3's. I'm thinking down the road upgrading to the AQ2200 or 3500 but that is a different topic and its not happening any time soon.

Would I notice a difference with just the sub swap or should I keep what I have until I go big or go home?

Was also entertaining the idea of three 10's but my amp does not push enough power for three HDC3's. Hell it don't even handle two of them.

An 18 has more fine area then 12's so I'd say yes if in the proper enclosure

Do you think the AQ 18 will get lower than my RE's?

I am debating on building a new box for the RE's with a slot port tuned to 32 vs the 37 they are at. I figure I should try that first before swapping subs.

Is the box they are in now a well designed box? If so, if you know what tuning down does, then you know what you will be getting. Honestly, if you keep looking at the AQ you're going to want it even if you build another box.

Get the 18. Tune low. That's my opinion.

Your right. My 12's just aren't going to make me happy even in a lower tuned box.

I will order the 18 on Monday. I can run that for a while on my ZX1000.1 then later on get another 18 and an AQ2200 and have some real fun

You mention ability to play rock music and will it get lower then my RE's. So what is it that you're looking for?

I run an HDC4 18 in my daily and mostly play 80's metal/rock and I love how punchy the sub is. I rarely play rap, but it does play down to 30Hz nicely as I don't play lower then that.

I was basically looking to do the same box as you, 6@35 I figure that would be a good happy medium. I listen to everything but a lot of rap lately and just want to hit some lower notes the RE's aren't currently hitting.
