Worth the upgrade? 1501d vs 2400db

Well I just finished my box for the 18's and it's ready to go. I've been thinking about diff amp's lately to power them. Currently I run the a2400db that put's out prob 1400~rms@1 and 1000~@ 2ohm (maybe closer too 900). I've been pondering going back to an amp I've owned before but regretfully sold years back, the Mtx 1501d. I still have my old birthsheet that listed it as 1147rms@12.5v, so I figure a solid 1350rms will be seen at around operating voltage.

I modded my old one and it was nice, nothing crazy but at the same time I didn't have the electrical to back it up. Either way it's a more powerful amp then the pa. But is an extra 3-400rms @2 ohm worth the upgrade?

With box rise the JL's only went up to 1.7 (wired to 1.5) so i'd need to mod the Mtx anyway's as it's 2ohm stable..

All said and done once I sell my current amp the Mtx would cost me an extra 100~ bucks.

What would you do?

2400: 4awg inputs, nice sturdy amp.

1501d: More power, 0awg inputs.

im a budget type guy. i do like the pa 2400's. those are nice amp to be PA. but thats just my opinions.

I'm a budget guy too which is why I bought the pa. It was one of the few series from them that are worth buying. Just feel like the JL's deserve better.

PA??? Thats a db drive amp..

That's a diff amp (not db drive) but the same board as the 2400 and the other 6 amps that share it, they didn't have exact guts so I used this one.

oh. lol... im bouta test a bamf 5500. for giggles. i just want see what it will sound liike. i know for sure they put out close to 2.3k...

Mod the 1501, "3k" at 1 ohm.

What are you going for out of the setup? Odds are with that little power you won't notice much of a difference. However, with the different amp comes different crossover/eq points. So the overall sound may change dramatically. Which may give the appearance of being louder, but it more then likely won't really be(maybe a small bit..maybe)

Can't blame you for wanting to try it. That's prob the only one out of the bamf's that wouldn't mind messing with.

Never used any power acoustic myself so i cant compare them but i do have a 1501d for sale if you decide on switching.

They are not worth bothering with. PA as a whole is less then quality now. Before when all they were doing was waiting for patents to run out then build off old designs they were "ok" at best..but they don't do that much any more.
