Trust me, I'm a doctor
Ok, I hate to be hatin', but this one was too good (or bad) to keep to myself. My friend has an 87 POS camaro RS. He got some deck for like 60 bucks, and one of those boxes you can get at wallmart or kragen w/ 2 12's, mids and higs all in the same box. Then he got a 240w Rampage amp. He was explaining to me how when he turned it up, it would get distorted and start cutting out, and he wanted me to check his wiring. He suspected something was grounded improperly. What I found made me cry and laugh so hard I almost pissed myself at the same time. His front speakers, rear speakers AND the box were all wired in parallel off the deck. Then the box was also wired to his amp. The amp was wired directly to the battery with a single, unfused, 18awg speakerwire. There was no ground wire, and no remote wire. The RCA's were actually wired correctly, one pair of them. It was a 4channel amp, so there were 2 inputs for RCA's. One channel was wired to the back of the deck, the other channel had a random RCA cable plugged into it that he found under the carpet in his car. It was a real forehead slapper. To do him a favor, I unplugged and completely removed the piece of speaker wire being used to create a fire hazard and told him to bring it to me on monday so I could completley start from scratch.
