alright, so here is the story for the advice i need...

last saturday night i went out to a local bar/club deal here in town, went out drinking, did a little dancing, had a good time. i ended up dancing with this chick for quite some time, we talked alot, enjoyed the evening, nothing particularly special, just dancing and having a conversation (as best you can in a loud club).

at the end of the night the lights come on, i go to give her a hug and say thanks for dancing with me. i wasnt looking to meet anyone that night, as i had a girlfriend, but i still went out and enjoyed myself (perhaps a bit more than i should have...). as i went in for the hug, she asked me if i wanted her phone number, to which i replied yes, of course. she gave me her phone number, i put it in my phone and i said i would be in touch. she challenged me that i would not remember her name, so shortly after we left the club i sent her a text message with her name and a smiley face. we had a conversation via text the whole way home that night, and then when i got home we had a 30 minute conversation on the phone before bed.

i have since broken up with the girlfriend, and wed evening i called the new girl to see if she wanted to meet up this weekend. she didnt answer, i left her a voice mail, which has not been returned yet...

should i call her back this afternoon? should i call her back tomorow? would it be weird if i sent her a tect message today while im at work and then possibly tried calling her tomorow?

Don't text for at least one week. You have put the call in and she got it (unless for some reason all VM systems went dead). So if she wants to call she will. If not, in a week call and just say that you saw her old text and thought you would see how she was doing, if she was going to that club etc.
