wood thickness question?

would it be alright if i used 1/2" mdf for the back side of a box? if i use 3/4" for the whole box i will be off by .1 cft in order to have the box to the sub's specs, or would that .1 cft even really matter?

also this is a ported box if that makes any difference? it would be great if i could use 1/2" for the whole box but wouldnt that make it to weak

oooh and i am just crunching some numbers to see what all kind of setups i could put in my truck this box would be for 6 re 8's ported tuned to 30 hz

I never use 1/2" MDF, 5/8" minimum

.1ft^3 will probably not make a difference that you will audibly notice

use 5/8" all around perhaps. that should give you the airspace you need

You could try some 1/2" birch ply with some braces, that should work well since birch is stronger than MDF.

How many cubes you need? If its not a lot, id say use 5/8 all around and brace it.

1/2 is fine for a small box.etc, used it all the time, and with braceing, its solid.

I have a feeling that enclosure is going to be going across the entire width of the truck's seats. 1/2" MDF isn't going to like stretching that far. 5/8" should be alright as long as it's braced.
