thanks

basically any dense wood will work just fine, MDF is used a lot because it is so easy to work with and it is cheap. depending on the resonance of the encloseure, you may want to add some sort of dampening material, but other than that have fun with the Ironwood, it has a name for a reason!

it would be much cheaper to use mdf and cover it with a veneer ( in most cases)
$30 for one sheet of MDF plus $35-70 for one sheet of veneer or $100 in solid wood, I would go with the solid wood and save myself the time and trouble of applying veneer to only end up with a faux solid wood looking box.IMO

i dont want to use MDF. i want something that looks sick, even if it costs me a pretty penny
6 one half dozen... as far as $ go

I'm not a carpenter or anything, but isnt that 100$ figure pretty meaningless without knowing what kind and how much of the wood is being used? Also, a proper veneer job can come out beautifully, just see the picture i posted above.

I was assuming a 3ft box, and that would use about 15 board foot +/- of wood, at $6 per board foot (most any wood out side very exotic)

As for a proper veneer job, you have to have steam boxes and vac presses to hope to achieve anything near what you posted.

Then ontop of all that if you just so happen to ding or nick veneer, your screwed.

An BTW I am a carpenter for over 20 yrs.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
