Aint this some Shit!

"LOS ANGELES - A woman who lay bleeding on the emergency room floor of a troubled inner-city hospital died after 911 dispatchers refused to contact paramedics or an ambulance to take her to another facility, newly released tapes of the emergency calls reveal.

Edith Isabel Rodriguez, 43, died of a perforated bowel on May 9 at Martin Luther King Jr.-Harbor Hospital. Her death was ruled accidental by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Relatives said Rodriguez was bleeding from the mouth and writhing in pain for 45 minutes while she was at a hospital waiting area. Experts have said she could have survived had she been treated early enough..."

Read on...

Why was she calling 911 to be transfered somewhere? She was already at a hospital right?

EDIT: Right, read the story.... What a crappy hospital... though I can relate. ER waiting rooms are awful. I wonder what perforated her bowels...

no becasue her family is a dumbass for taking her there and not somewhere else. That hostpital has had problem like that for a while very frequntly.i know i woulnt take my family member there.

saw that on the news. . . . that hospital is horrible though.... it's in the sh!t part of los angeles and that's where all the gang members go for knife, gun shot wounds, and is the main trama center in the area. I don't even know if there is any money in that hospital to sue for much.. . poor woman though......

Yah, it's probably not the best place... Then again if your relative was dying I'm not sure if you'd drive across town for a better hospital... There also may have been more pressing people already in the ER. If it was busy then she just may have been the victim of triage... which of course would have been hard to communicate to them if the ER worker guy didn't speak spanish...

I know at my local hospital there are ways to get into the ER right away and avoid the waiting room...most of the time, when you call for an ambulance they'll get you in right away and you'll avoid the waiting room...also, if you complain about symptoms of a heart attack, they'll usually get you in right away.

I remember when I got into my accident and went back to the hospital because nothing was getting better, I told them I had chest pains and had trouble breathing (which I did). They took me in right away.

Of course, I sat in the ER unattended for almost 2 hours. I almost decided to pretend I was dead and see how long it took someone to actually notice.

Think about it. Most hospitals around here either lose money or are subsidized by govt money. If there is no money in running a hospital, then people stop building them and we get substandard care. She is just a victim of circumstances. How does one know which person has the highest priority? In this case, neither party has all the information.

If she was keeled over and bleeding out of her mouth, dont you think she should be a priority? I do.

What if there was more than one person. Perhaps they were already treating a person from a multiple gunshot/stab wounds? There is not an infinite number of beds with an infinite amount of people to tend for them. Because of this, sometimes people die. Is it bad that she died because of a numbers game? Yes. Do I want my taxes raised to build new hospitals or my insurance go up so investors can build them privately? No.

Do you have a better solution?
