Wiring

You don't have a constant power wire running to your headunit from your battery. That wire keeps power going to the headunit even when the car is off and saves the settings for you. What kind of car is it?

i dont think i have the constant running from the battery i know i have to have the constant hooked up for the receiver to work though..1990 toyota celica Gt

you don't need it to work, as you have well pointed out with your prob. single out your memory wire from the harness of the hu(most likely a yellow wire), then poke around back there with the keys out of the car..... when it lights up you found your wire. they make these tools to help you in your travels spend the 5 bucks and fix it instead of resetting the settings every time you get into the car

so with the keys out just figure out which wire gives the hu power while off and then once i have found that wire hook it up to the power wire right?

Also i think i have the tool your talking about that you touch the wire and it lights up?

but im not sure which is the memory wire from the car harness because the only extra wire from the car harness is blue, and the only yellow wire comming from the car harness is the constant

the constant would be it...9 out of ten its a yellow or orange wire and as many have said you CAN run it with the power wire(red) and just have them both use it, but you will be stuck turning off your head unit every time you get out of the car, this is why i say to single out the right wire and do it right the first time so as to not be in your dash ****ing around over and over.

you probably have the switched (acc) and constant 12 switched if you harness is fully connected.

he is saying when you wired it you crossed these wires or ran them both to the acc or the ignitions on off switch instead of running them to the all time power(constant) in which case you can just switch them both and end up with the prob i said or look at the wires and do the right thing. if you know what your constant is then just switch it with the wire that lights up with the key off.....seams like iv said this before

im not exactly understanding what you are saying, but if you have the constant (car harness) to the acc (radio harness) the radio will turn on but not save settings.

constant -> 12v

acc -> acc

the harness colors dont always match. then again i could be way off...

if you have a HU with a removable face plate or a goust deck then you run speaker wire from your batterys possitive to the power wire in the back of your deck and everytime you turn off your car and remove the face plate it will turn off unless its a goast deck then when the face plate goes goast it will turn off anyways
