wiring up a screen

I just purchased a screen I got cheap from work last week and am finally getting some time off to put it in. Its ran by a plug for the cigarette lighter but I want to hook it up to where it turns on/off with the truck. I understand I need to cut the plug off and wire it to the 12v auxilary if im right. would I just wire the + to the 12v auxilary and then the negative to a ground/negative? Never done this before so bare with me.

Can I use the 12v aux. wire going to the headunit? Im also planning on doing this for a dc-ac converter would that work or would it be too much power?

Are you talking about wiring where it will only operate with the truck on??? if so you need to find a 12v ignition wire... not a constant?

Correct. I want it to turn on/off as a headunit would. When the truck is turned off the screen is off. When the truck is turned on the screen is on. Trying to do it that way so I dont accidently drain my battery.

auxilary, ignition, accessory... shits all the same to me haha

Yes, IF the fuse/wire is rated to supply the extra current needed to run the screen, which is no problem, just something to always think about. You should also fuse the wire going to the screen for its rated current...

Like Jujumantb said you need to make sure that the wire can handle the extra current. if not, I know in my truck there is a box under the dash that is full of Iginition outlets that you can tap into...Call your local dealer or search around to see if your vehicle has something similar

Sounds good thanks for the help. I think what ill do is get a female cigarette lighter plug and wire the + to the acc/igntion/aux whichever one i can find the easiest that way I can plug the male end for the screen into that to have a fuse for the screen. As for the dc-ac converter. I think I will just run some wire straight to the battery.
