Wiring two DVC 4ohm subs to make them 1ohm

Ok....so people on this forum say you can wire two DVC 4ohm subs together to make them 1ohm. There are also many diagrams out there that say you can do this like this one http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp?submitted=true&woofer_qty=2&woofer_imp=4 ....The guy at the car audio store I just went to said it is not possible, Is the guy at the store simply wrong????

yea i wouldnt go back to that shop seeing how they dont even kno how to wire up subs....just go by the diagram you posted off of rockford site.
