Wiring to E-Brake

Just wondering if anyone knows how to hook up a source unit, or a screen to the emergency brake....I have a 7" screen mounted in my dash, and a clarion headunit and aftermarket dvd player...i have the screen wired to a hard switch, but just wanted to make it so it only plays when the ebrake is engaged...if possible...

so u dont want to watch tv on long trips?
Because maybe he realizes it's a huge safety risk? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

The standard manufacturer-recommended installation usually has the source dependent on the e-brake being engaged for it to play, as it's generally illegal in most states to have a video unit playing up front.

Would help to know what kind of vehicle it is. Basically the e-brake wire is one that is connected to ground when the brake is set. It's usually a single wire, connected right to a switch built into the parking brake mechanism. If it's under the dash, it shouldn't be too hard to see; if it's in the console, it might be a lot tougher to find without some disassembly.

It sounds like you don't have an in-dash mobile-video system with its own e-brake wire. If this is true, you'll need to use a relay to interrupt the power wire to your screen. Wire the relay like this:

85--key-switched 12v+

86--parking brake wire

87--12v+

87a--not used

30--to 12v input on screen

This will allow voltage to get to your screen as long as your key is on and the parking brake is set. If your screen's power supply has separate wires for constant power and switched power, then use the switched power through the relay. Be sure to use a key-switched power source for the relay coil (85); if you use constant power and set the parking brake with the vehicle off, the relay will activate and eventually drain your battery.

Awesome thanks for the reply //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yes it is a stand-alone 7" screen molded into my dash....i got a ticket for it, and go to court tmmorow and want to honestly be able to say that it is now not a safety risk...
