wiring sub

Pioneer DEh-3?00 head unit, RCA pre-outs, one set. in 87 mustang..

front to the top dash speakers, rear to the in door speakers,

rca to the 4 channel BOSS AVA 650 amp.. Y splitter on RCA to drive

CH 1/3 (left) and CH 2/4 (right),

speakers 1/2 from channels 1/2, are 6x9 in the rear seats.

channels 3/4 are bridged and drive a single 10 in LA sounds, 800 watt sub..

but. where I would expect the sub to do only low tones, when I have the amp

set in bridged mode, the quality of the sub sound stinks.. lots of fast movement,

almost buzzing when low tones come thru.. turn off cross over,

and its a big speaker, with good low tones, AND highs.. ugh, not on my sub please..

now, this LA SOunds sub, has 4 sets of connectors around the shell,

and shows multiple different ways to wire it..

so, rather than cross over, should I use both channels 3/4 and use one of the

diagrams they show...? durned if I can figure out which way is what tho..

1,2,4,8 and .5 settings.. mono as well..

thanks..

switching channels 1/2 for 3/4 and reversing the roles yields the same results..

I don't think the amp is bad, just don't know how to set and adjust it..

there are cross over adjustments and volume adjustments..

so all together we are running 7 speakers, 4 off the head unit, and 3 off the amp,

two 6x9's and the sub..

any guidance welcomed..

Welcome to the board! If you stick around long enough you will more than likely be able to have all your Q's answered, there is a great group of people that are willing to help.

As far as you Q goes, personally I would not bridge the channels going to the sub. I would wire it just like it shows in the first diagram. By the sounds of it the sub is getting mixed signals and/or wired wrong. You have to use all the terminals on the sub. Try it like the first pic. and see what happens.

Even though the amp states 2ohm stable, I think that is at stereo not mono. Meaning if you bridge the amp (making the signal mono) you have to stay at 4ohms. If you do not bridge (keep in stereo) you can go down to 2ohms.

Go with the 4ohm stereo config. and you should be fine. Also make sure that the channel 3 and 4 settings are the same (gains, x-overs).

Where it has you wiring from the - of one sub terminal to the + of another, just seperate a piece of speaker wire into 2 pieces and use that.

Good luck!

thanks..

the choice on the sub is crossover mode on or off (via a push button switch)

when ON, then the cuttoff level is adjustable.. there is also a volume

adjustment for CH 3&4 regardless of the cross over mode..

I take it you're telling me to run crossover OFF and wire channel 3 to

one set of connectors and channel 4 to the other, as per the 4 ohm stereo

config wiring diagram..

I didn't mention that this amp is 160x4, or 320x2.

thanks again.. will try some more fiddling tonight..
