Wiring question

I just recently upgraded my system to two jl w6 12s on a hifonics hifi1500. I already had 4 guage wire hooked up for my previous system. about a week after having this new system hooked up I noticed that the battery wire and the place where the battery wire is hooked up to the amp is all melted. What could this be from? Do I need to upgrade to 0 guage wire?

Upgrade the wire to good wire, add some fuses...
