Wiring question

I just recently upgraded my system to two jl w6 12s on a hifonics hifi1500. I already had 4 guage wire hooked up for my previous system. about a week after having this new system hooked up I noticed that the battery wire and the place where the battery wire is hooked up to the amp is all melted. What could this be from? Do I need to upgrade to 0 guage wire?

4 ga should be sufficient the question is, is your 4 ga really 4 ga, some wires will say 4 ga but not really 4 ga wire

just go with 0 gauge in case you decide to upgrade... and if you do.. its already done
