OK I have 2 Jl apms 500/1 300/4, I have 0/1 gauge that I am running from the battery to a Distrabution block, From the block i am running 2 4 AWG cables to the amps. Now my question is will the 300A fuse that I am using on the 0/1 AWG be to big for my amps? Also do really have to put the Fuse block within 18 inches of the battery?

i would say that the fuse is too big.

As for the 18" rule, it is somewhat arbitrary as far as length. As far as if you need one, in an accident you could burn down your car if the wire gets pinched in the back (wire melting, battery blowing up, etc.)

Juan

That fuse is just fine for 1/0 gage wire.

You dont fuse your wire for your amps you fuse the wire for protection.

The size of the fuse all depends on the size of wire.
