Wiring Question (wires need separation when run?)

Ok, I have a friend who suggested that when you run your power, RCA, and Remote wires, that you put the power cable on one side of the car, and the RCA+ Remote wire on the other side, to reduce interference.

Actually 100% false...Running your power wires next to your RCA's is fine as long as your have decently shielded RCA cables. Its just another audio myth, The main cause of alternator whine is a ground loop.

On another note, as long as the whole system is grounded correctly, you should be able to wrap the shittiest RCA's ever made around bare wire and they won't induce noise.

It's just a good idea to go ahead and install the cables on opposite ends. In professional installation its customary to run the power wire on the drivers side, and the RCA and remote on the passenger side. It's easier to run the RCA's and the remote wire behind a glovebox, and down the kick panel than it is to run it over your pedals. And the typical spot to find a place to run power cable is on the drivers side. So it just kinda works out in all aspects to follow this rule.

Don't let people tell you that it's a myth either. It's very true, it depends on so many factors including the vehicle, other installed accessories, amplifiers, cables, etc.... sometimes you will run into a problem, sometimes you wont.

actually if you are using a decent set of rca's you will be fine.

back in the 90's it was more of an issue. and the issue is pretty not really relavant anymore since shielded cables

I got the cheapest, crappiest Wally-World RCA's for about $7.00 running alongside my remote, and main power 4ga. running down the drivers side trim in my truck. I have NO hiss, or any type of distortion at all... It's a myth...

Ok, well my RCA's came in one of those kits that comes from Walmart (bought in 2001), you know, the one that comes with 8 guage power and ground wires, and a set of RCA cables. Mine are probably shielded as well, as I've never had a problem with hissing or that kind of distortion.

My issue was strictly a power one, with my 120W amp pushing one 10 cutting off from time to time. After replacing the alt (not with a H/O one, just the normal 70A one for my car), redoing the grounds, and doing the big 3 with 1/0 cables, I still had the problem. I had ruled out the battery because I tested it many times at auto parts stores who said it was good. Well, I finally went and got a new battery at Advance and it seems to have fixed my problem.
