Wiring only one voice coil?

thats what i was saying....it will void your warranty.

Regular vc windings on an svc have leads on both sides of the pole causing even distribution of power...on a dvc the first windings are both on one side and the other two are on the opposite side of the pole, running one will cause one side to only push causing the sub to not extend straight.

No... that is not how they work...

They are intertwined and have no ability, nor way to make them "push on only one side."

Whether or not JL voids your warranty for this isn't going to change how DVC subwoofers are designed. You can safely run a DVC with a single coil, provided you cut your power consumption in half.

DVC subs are wound the same way as SVC, excuding the factor that they have two independant coils. BOTH coils work the same way as a SVC unit does, running a single one will not cause any damage, if you know what you are doing.

In response to why anyone would want to drive a singe coil of a DVC woofer. I can get maximum output from my amp at 4 ohm load and I want to drive a dual 4 ohm DVC woofer. Series configuration would be underdriving my amp and parallel would cause this amp to clip.

What is the best solution?
